Bolton start the day in the bottom three, but they've still got every reason to fancy their chances of survival. Owen Coyle's team go into the weekend two points from safety, but they've got two games in hand on all the other teams immediately around them.

Bolton also have a sequence of matches that any of the other teams would sign up for at the moment. This home match against Swansea, who are safe on 42 points, is followed by a big one at Aston Villa, then Sunderland away, Spurs and West Brom at home and finally a trip to Stoke on the last day.

“Bolton have to see this as an opportunity against a team who aren't in the relegation fight ”

The general mood's got to be good at the moment too, with Fabrice Muamba recovering well and released from hospital this week.

Swansea inadvertently did Wanderers a favour last week by beating struggling Blackburn 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium. It brought to an end a sticky run of four straight defeats for the Swans, who've nonetheless impressed with their style and substance during a solid first season in the Premier League.

Bolton looked to be on a roll until recently with three consecutive wins, but they've lost their last two in a row. They have also managed only four wins on their own ground in the league all season.

Owen Coyle's side have already beaten Swansea at the Reebok this season in the fourth round of the FA Cup, although it was on a day when both managers made full use of their squads, so I don't think we can read too much into that.

At this time of year we get used to seeing unpredictable results - Wigan beating Manchester United and Arsenal anyone? But ahead of this game it's clear Bolton have to see this as an opportunity against a team who aren't in the relegation fight and have been beaten 10 times on the road this season, including 3-0 at QPR in their last away game.
