Preview

Blackburn have four games left to play and I reckon they are going to need three wins to give themselves a decent chance of staying up.

“The Premier League is like quicksand - if you seek just to stand still, you'll sink. Ask Blackburn about that”

That's why Steve Kean will have the remaining fixtures spinning though his head like a mantra - "Norwich at home, Spurs away, Wigan at home, Chelsea away."

If they don't start by beating Norwich then Derren Brown would struggle to conjure nine points out of what's left, let alone Kean. And yet a mere month ago it seemed as though Blackburn were stepping out of the gloomy shadows in which relegation fears gnaw on their prey.

Rovers had taken 10 points from five games and had a chance to put further distance between them and the bottom three with a match at Bolton - they lost that and the subsequent four games. It was not the time to hit their worst run of results in almost four years.

Meanwhile, on a happier note, what about Norwich? What a season! Who would have thought that Grant Holt and Steve Morison would outscore Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll?

For a long time this season it's seemed likely that Norwich would have their highest top-flight finish since 1993 when they were third. To achieve that they must be higher than 12th - they might yet do it despite only winning two of their last nine.

One more point would mean that even the meanest mathematician could not get Norwich relegated. Next season will probably be tougher and Paul Lambert will already have his plans in place, expecting some backing from his board.

After all, the Premier League is like quicksand - if you seek just to stand still, you'll sink. Ask Blackburn about that.
